Genedocs Hybrid Chart

Genedocs Hybrid Chart with 3D add on effects.....What began several years ago as a bold attempt at improving the pedigree chart to include sibling information quickly grew into something far more expansivley useful.
.
As you can see in the photo example at the left, the end result additionally added not only portraits of ancestors and siblings as child and adult, but also actual source document images and fully customizable compiler comments (with several privacy options). The 3-D effects and group photos seen here are merely my own creative additional enhancements to display the powerful end products Excel can actually generate with some practice.

.....Even without all of the extras I quickly learned how to add in Excel, the challenge has become how to provide a simple data entry version for others to generate their own chart(s) regardless whether they have eight, ten, or even twelve siblings per ancestor to plug in.

.
.....Using a few sheets in Excel for ancestor and sibling data entry, with numeous simple formulas for carry over to the chart sheet, the task became managable. Of course a researcher will still need to use the Insert-Picture-From File path several times to add each family photo and scanned image of each vital certificate along with right clicking cells to their hearts content to add and edit cell comments and determine whether they should be hover-over readable, displayed only when viewed on a screen, or printable as viewed on page/screen (one other option for even more privacy but room for less text does exist.) There is also the option of making a shape fill an image and manipulating it to your liking with properties variations.

Anyway, the 2012 RootsTech Challenge is about using the Hybrid data entry form so please click the attachment below to save and try for yourself.

.....Note that Sheet1 is for inputing Ancestors, Sheet 2 is the Chart View to see how your data entered from other sheets will look, Sheet 3 is for entering Sibling data that will also transfer to sheet 2 - I have only added a few siblings per ancestor in tis example, but it is very easy to see the formulas on sheet 2 by clicking on the cells to add more data entry rows on sheet three and corresponding blocks on sheet 2 for however many siblings you require.

.....One main feature that users will like is that inserted pictures of scanned source documents can be expanded large enough to legibly read so you'll want to be sure to have scanning set to 200 or 300 dpi minimum for that legible resolution we researchers all can't get enough of.
